Deadline For Mandatory FASTags Extended To December 15
Posted Date:-11/30/2019 3:40:18 PM

The central government has extended the date of making FASTag mandatory for toll payment on national highways till 15th of next month. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had earlier announced that from December 1, toll payments on highways would be accepted only through FASTags.

The ministry said in a statement that it has been found that many citizens still have not enabled their vehicles with Fstag due to various reasons. It added that in order to provide citizens some more time to buy and insert FASTag to their vehicles, it has now been decided to charge double user fees from vehicles entering FASTag lanes without FASTag this year. Will start from December. The ministry also said, NHAI FASTag will be provided free by 15 December.

To save fuel, time and pollution and ensure uninterrupted movement of traffic, the government has introduced the National Electronic Toll Collection Program, which provides for the collection of user fees through FASTag. The National Highways Authority of India has equipped all toll plazas with electronic toll collection system and for ease of availability of FASTag, it has also launched the MyFASTag APP under which all information about FASTag can be obtained.
