Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill introduced in Lok Sabha

Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari presented the Automotive (Amendment) Bill, 2019 in the Lok Sabha today.
Bill wants to amend the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Increasing penalties of traffic violation, address issues on third party insurance, regulation of cab aggregators, proposed changes in road safety modification.
It has been decided to abandon a section of the Motor Vehicles Act in the amendment bill so that it can be decided to maintain their registration for driving licenses, centralize vehicle registration data and get standardization.
It also proposes a national transport policy to follow the guidelines on the transport of goods and passengers.
Shri Gadkari said that he wants to improve the transport system in the country. Road accidents kill more than one hundred and fifty thousand people annually and five lakh people are injured.
The minister said that the bill has been approved by Transport Ministers and Standing Committee of 18 states as the Joint Committee has also passed the bill.
