Indonesia: Millions Go to Polls to Choose a President

Voters in Indonesia headed to the polls on Wednesday morning in the world’s largest direct presidential election, to decide who will lead the country for the next five years.


Prabowo Subianto, an ex-general and son-in-law of the former dictator Suharto, is seeking a win against President Joko Widodo, who defeated Mr. Prabowo in the last election, five years ago.Indonesia today rivals one of the world's largest one-day elections, in front of former General Prabowo Subianto in the race to lead the nation, Joko Vododo stands up.


More than 190 million Indonesians are ready to put a ballot. In the world's third largest democracy, 245,000 candidates are running for president, from presidential and parliamentary seats to local positions.


It is shown in the Opinion Poll that Mr Vidodo is a clear favorite - but he has to face the hard challenge of Mr Subinto, who has fallen on a fierce nationalist ticket and has warned that if he loses, the voter- Challenge the results of the irregularities in the list.


There is a large logistics challenge in a country spread over 4,800 kilometers in more than 17,000 islands with population of more than 260 million in elections, including hundreds of ethnic groups and languages. The official results are not expected to come by May.
